Jordan S. Hatcher

Jordan is a consultant with ipVA in addition to being ipVA's Head of Research. He's also the resident blogger at Tangible IP, ipVA's blog on building value through intellectual property. His consulting work focuses on copyright and trademark issues, open innovation, open content, free and open source software (FOSS), and anything where digital technology and the law meet.

Jordan is the co-author of a set of international open data licences at OpenDataCommons.org and has written and presented extensively on open licensing. He has been directly involved in the drafting and development of Creative Commons licenses, and was on the research team for a ground breaking project examining the use of open content licenses for the public sector in the UK. Jordan's academic experience includes several peer-reviewed publications and contributing to graduate-level law courses on the International IP System, Legal Research, and on the UK and US legal systems at the University of Edinburgh. He has presented at several international conferences and events on IP/IT law topics, including the Society of Legal Scholars Annual Conference, BILETA, and GIKII, and guest lectured on open source at the University of Southampton. As to other formal qualifications, Jordan is a licensed attorney (Texas), and is active in various organisations related to technology and intellectual property.

Jordan has an LLM in Innovation Technology and the Law with distinction from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, a JD with honors in law from the University of Texas, and graduated cum laude in Radio, Television & Film at the University of North Texas.
