Thomas Ewing

Thomas L. Ewing is a frequent collaborator with ipVA, working in all aspects of IP. Tom is a commercial lawyer, registered patent attorney, and intellectual property counselor with nearly 20 years of experience in the IP field.

In his consulting practice, Tom routinely advises international organizations, government agencies, universities, law firms, multinational corporations and financial institutions.  Tom authored the World Intellectual Property Organization’s patent agent training manual, and has trained patent agents from nearly 40 countries.  Tom has taught commercial law and intellectual property asset management at various universities and professional associations in both the US and Europe.

Tom has worked as a legal professional at major US law firms, the California Institute of Technology, and a software company owned by the Liberty Media Corp., where he served as vice president and Chief Intellectual Property Officer (CIPO).  Before entering the legal profession, Tom served as an engineer at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.  Mr. Ewing holds five degrees, and is a member of two state bar associations.

In 2009 Tom was named as one of the world's leading IP strategists by IAM Magazine.
