Tim Jackson is a consultant with ipVA and specialises in engineering, measurement and instrumentation, optics and electronics.  He is a UK and European Patent Attorney, and has a BSc in Physics.

For many years he worked at the engineering company Renishaw plc, a world leader in precision measurement and spectroscopy equipment used in manufacturing industry and healthcare.  Rising to become Renishaw’s Chief Patent Attorney, he advised the Board on its world-wide patent strategy.  He was particularly active in developing the company’s patent portfolio to provide commercial advantage against competitors.

Prior to that, he qualified and worked for a number of years in a large private practice firm of patent attorneys.  There he advised a wide range of clients from small start-ups to major multinationals, in fields as diverse as packaging and semiconductor manufacture.   He then moved into industry, and spent several years working with aero engine technology at Rolls-Royce plc.

He has experience of managing numerous patent infringement actions, in USA, Germany, Italy and France, and acts in oppositions and appeals before the European Patent Office.

Tim is a member of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).  He also serves on CIPA’s Patents Committee, on behalf of which he has provided consultation and advice on patent policy to the UK and European Patent Offices.
